Types of US Student Visa
Generally international students can apply for two types of US Student Visa. Each category is specific to its purpose, and cannot be interchanged. They are the F-visa and the M-visa class.
US Study visa (F-Class)
The F-class Visa is applicable if you want to study in any of the following institutions –
- University or college degree
- High school entry
- Seminary schools
- Private elementary school
- Language training programs
US Study Visa (M-class)
This is applicable, if you want to undergo a vocational program or pursue a study in a non-academic related institution.
However, foreign applicants who have a US visitor visa or enrolled in a Visa waiver program are not permitted to undergo any study program within the duration of their stay.
US Study Visa requirements application process
The application process and requirements of a US study Visa for international students is the same irrespective of your location and country of application. The first step is to apply to your institution of choice, and they will provide you with an acceptance or admission letter. Once you pay the fees, the institutions will provide you with the form I-20. That form will be used to register to SEVIS before the visa application can take place at the embassy.

- Passport sized photograph

- For those applying as a non-immigrant, they have to obtain a DS-160 confirmation form
- If you want to apply for a vocational or language program, you have to show the relevant certificate that makes you eligible for the program.
